SCRAPBOOKING PENS
Do creations from scrapbooking pens facinate you?Do you ever wonder how professional scrapbook artist produce eye-catching journals and titles? Well, need not to be because you yourself can do it. Just know which scrapbooking pens are appropriate to use. The following will tell you everything you need to know about scrapbooking pens.
ACID-FREE, LIGNIN-FREE AND ARCHIVAL PEN
These pens do not contain harmful alcohol-based chemicals that will lighten and disappear right away. Acid-free pens resist fading over time and do not smear.
The following are the types of acid-free scrapbooking pens:
- Felt-tip pen / Marker Pen – a pen that has its own ink-source and a tip made up of a porous material such as felt or nylon. Felt tip pen / marker pen can be used for writing titles, journals, etc. Tip styles are as follows:
oFine tip pen – has a very small tip which is usually measured in millimeters (ranges from .005mm to .08mm). This is great for outlining, adding details and doing your scrapbooking journals.
oDouble-tipped point pen – has a very fine tip on one end and a bullet tip on the other part. You can use this in writing titles in order to illustrate the color better.
oCalligraphy pen – creates grand-looking titles and captions. Its tip is flat and broad that can produce letters that are beautiful and ribbonlike when held at a 45-degree angle. This gives elegance to your scrapbook.
- Gel pen – can be used to create doodles. This pen comes in variety of colors with glitters which is typically being written on black platform to make your work very captivating.
TIPS ON STORING SCRAPBOOKING PENS
If you want to use storage drawers in organizing your scrapbooking pens, be reminded to place it horizontally so that the ink will be distributed evenly. However, if you are on a tight budget, just simply look for an old shoe box in your storage room and place it in the same manner.
You may also use a pen cup that has compartments which can be bought from any office supply store and simply lay your scrapbooking pens on its side to have easy and accessible storage. This can also be substituted by tin cans, plastic pencil cases, make-up organizers and/or clear acrylic boxes.
Organizing your pens by color provides ease in finding complimentary colors and in scrapbooking; color is known to be the key in layout design. You may sort out colors in this order: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, Purple, Naturals/White and Grey/Black. You may also organize it according to its thickness and type.

Digital vs. Traditional Scrapbooking
June 25, 2009 by Julie Gazaway
Lately there has been more and more attention drawn to digitally scrapbooking instead of scrapbooking the traditional way. There are many reasons why you might want to swap over, if you haven’t already, here are 3.
1. Time - Time is very precious, and we all know scrapbooking takes time. So, why not maximize the time you have? If you sat down and figured out how much time it takes to scrapbook, youd be amazed! First, you need to go through all the photos you want to use and edit and print each one. Then you need to go shopping, which is actually the fun part, and pick out all the products you plan on using for the scrapbook album. Then you go home, set it all up and start creating! But, while youre creating, there’s endless cutting, gluing, punching out, printing, etc. The list just keeps going. Then for the part we all hate; cleaning up! It always seemed like once I got into my creative groove, it was time to clean up! And since I dont have a room dedicated to scrapbooking, I had to clean up every single time, which used up a good chunk of the time I had for scrapbooking.
Now, let’s compare that to digital scrapbooking! You hop on your computer, surf the web for products you want to use and purchase, and immediately have them in your possession through downloads! Next, you add them into your digital scrapbooking program, and you’re ready to go. You add you’re pictures as you need them, so no need to edit and print before hand! And when you’re done, you walk away from the computer! You’re clean up time goes from minutes, to a couple seconds! Now that small time slot you had to scrapbook has been used to the max!
2. Convenience - Think back to the last time you scrapbooked. Do you remember sitting at a table with your products all around you, hoping for inspiration? Not to mention all the photos and supplies! I remember feeling so overwhelmed by the mess; I had a hard time being creative!
Compare that to digital scrapbooking. The only supply you need is your computer! You can basically sit anywhere and scrapbook. It doesn’t matter. You could be sitting on a plane, squished up against your neighbor and be scrapbooking! Now, that’s convenience.
3. Money - This is the main reason I switched over to digital. Scrapbooking costs money. This is a fact we’ve all come to realize and accept. When I scrapbooked, I was constantly making mistakes, or changing my mind while creating my pages and a lot of money ended up in the trash. I began creating my layouts on my computer hoping to save time and money. I found I really like it! If I created an album and 3 days later decided I hated it, I could delete it, and not waste any money at all. I was only out my time. But, how much money could you really save by switching to digital? I began breaking down the cost differences and this is what I found:
Traditional (20 page album) $0.60 per background page (that’s really good, most cost more) $1.50 in embellishments & extra paper for framing photos (some pages more, some pages less) $15 photo album (once again, that’s really good - most cost around $25-$30) $5 in sheet protectors (a box of 20 costs $10, and youd only use 10 pages) $0.50 in photo prints (that’s an average of $0.17 per picture and 3 pictures per page) Average of $72 per album (glue, adhesives, scissors, cutters, punches, stamps… and mistakes not included!)
Digital (20 page album published in a hard bound 12×12 book) $44.00 for book publishing (Quote taken from Shutterfly.com on June 12, 2009) $11.99 Shipping & Handling $7 (Optional purchase of digital scrapbooking products online) Average of $62.99 per album. And remember, that album is bound in a hard bound book, where the pages aren’t so thick they take a 2″ binder and you’ll never have to worry about the embellishments and photos falling off.
So, as you can see, traditional scrapbooking costs more. And those prices are very low. Most products cost a lot more than what I quoted.
So, if you’re not convinced, try it once, youll never go back!

3 Good Reasons to Digital Scrapbook
June 24, 2009 by Julie Gazaway

If you’re into scrapbooking, you’ve probably been hearing a lot lately about digital scrapbooking. So, why switch from traditional to digital? Here are just 3 reasons why!
1. Time - Scrapbooking takes time. Some of it we enjoy; some of it we hate! You start out by editing and printing your photos. Then you get to go shopping (this part we all love) for the products youll use in your photo album. Next, you have to set it all up and start creating your page layouts. Then there’s never ending, cutting, taping, gluing, printing, punching out, etc. The list goes on and on. It always seemed like once I was on a roll, I was out of time and had to start cleaning up (this part we all hate!) Unless you have a room dedicated to scrapbooking, you know exactly what I mean. It seemed like I was spending a huge chunk of my time setting and cleaning up.
Now, let’s compare that to digital scrapbooking. You turn on your computer, surf the web a little for products youd like to use, download them, and begin! And since you’re sitting at your computer, with no clutter and mess around you, you can walk away when youre done. With digital scrapbooking, you’re really able to maximize every second you put aside for scrapbooking!
2. Convenience - Think back to the last time you scrapbooked. Do you remember sitting at a table with your products all around you, hoping for inspiration? Not to mention all the photos and supplies! I remember feeling so overwhelmed by the mess; I had a hard time being creative!
Now, let’s compare that to digital scrapbooking. You can digital scrapbook anywhere you can use youre computer! Imagine taking youre laptop outside, or on a plane and scrapbooking! Since there’s no mess involved, it becomes a lot more convenient!
So, as you can see, traditional scrapbooking costs more. And those prices are very low. Most products cost a lot more than what I quoted.
If this hasnt convinced you to make the switch, give it a try, I know you’ll love it!

Ideas for Titles for Girls Scrapbook Pages

Are you looking for some funny or appropriate titles for girls scrapbook pages? It’s not a bad idea to add some titles and wording to any scrapbook pages you’re creating and of course when you’re making up a scrapbook for girls, some cute titles can really make the scrapbook album special.
Of course some beginning scrapbookers make the mistake of including phrases that are too girly for their girls scrapbooking titles. That is okay if the girl you are honoring is actually girly herself, but many girls are very into sports or would prefer to be known for their academics and grades rather than for their doll collection. Be careful and be selective when choosing your titles for girls scrapbook pages and make sure you use something that she’ll really appreciate rather than just choosing what you want. Most people expect to hand down their scrapbooks to the next generation so of course you want something she’ll enjoy looking at for years to come!
Here are some quick scrapbooking ideas for titles for girls scrapbook pages to get you started:
100% Adorable
All American Girl
Bathing Beauty
Forever Sisters
Girls With Attitude
Little Girls = Lots of Love
Little Miss Sunshine
Personality Plus
A Date with Dad
Girls Only
It’s All About Me
Sweet 16
That’s My Girl
13 Going on 30
Unbearably Cute
It’s a Girl Thing
Lovely Lady
When you are adding titles for girls scrapbook pages to your layouts, make sure you do not distract from the photo or memento. You might dress it up with a fancy font or make one particular word larger than the others to have it stand out. Don’t make all the words and letters too large or fancy. This will make the page look cluttered and crowded and can really detract from everything else you’ve added.
Be sure to get your daughter or whomever the page is for involved when creating and using titles for girls scrapbook pages. Ask her what she would like and would appreciate. She will probably have some ideas of her own! She may come up with a great idea for birthday scrapbooking titles or other funny scrapbooking sayings and titles. Maybe there’s a phrase or saying she’s known for or that all the kids are using. Including these kinds of phrases as titles for girls scrapbook pages can capture someone’s memory of that circle of friends, particular age or grade in school. Just keep these guidelines in mind when making any scrapbook page and you’re sure to create something that you truly love.
You Too Can Create a Simple Memory Book

You dont have to invest hundreds of dollars and hours of time to create your own special scrapbooking albums. Armed with the essential tools and supplies, anyone can get started scrapbooking right away. No need to feel panicked while wondering isle after isle of memory book products. Stay tuned and youll find out how to start preserving your favorite moments without too much muss or fuss.
First, start by selecting what photos you want to work with. Rather than choosing many photos that would fill an entire book about a family vacation, limit yourself to just a handful that focuses on a smaller event, such as juniors first baseball game. Once the photos are selected, arrange them to determine what size each should be, keeping in mind the total size of the page.
Next, choose the background paper. This can be a solid or patterned paper that coordinates with the event of the page you are creating. If you would like to highlight the photos, them mat them onto cardstock. You are welcome to use as many or as few colors as youd like. Photos can have a uniform frame all around or they can be matted off center. For added pizazz, decorative edge scissors may be used to cut the mat. Take care that all paper and card stock is lignin and acid free.
Once, the photos are where you like them, you might consider adding a border on some or all the sides of the page. Simple strips of paper or ribbon would work as well as borders cut using decorative edge scissors. You get to be as creative as you want.
Next, come up with a title or name for this page. Both the color and style of the lettering will draw attention to it. Use alphabet stickers to spell out the title, die-cut letters, or ready-to-use title strips that give you plenty of options. Stickers should also be acid and lignin free.
Now, grab your special pens or markers and write about the event, note important dates, names and descriptions of places and activities. If you want to be extra careful, write on a separate piece of paper and apply it to the background paper when it looks just right. Check that your pens use pigment ink.
When used strategically, embellishments can turn a somewhat ordinary page into a really spectacular one. Embellishments are anything decorative such as ribbons, buttons, tags, stickers, eyelets and charms. Remember that less is more so resist the urge to add too many do dads|use them al
Keep in mind that until you get more practice, its best to lay out all the components of the page and play around with them before deciding on the final layout. Once you know how the final page will look, then it is okay to start gluing things in place.
If you get stuck for ideas, there are tons of books, magazines and websites you can look at for inspiration. Memory pages even can be created on and printed from your computer. Whatever method you choose, youll be sure to enjoy it because every page is a unique creation.
