Static Exercise Bikes

If you don’t want to or cannot get out onto the roads or mountains then a static exercise bike is surely your answer.

Many new features have been incorporated in the last few years in exercise bikes. The popularity of spinning comes from gyms getting wind of the craze. Spinning bikes are now available for home use but that sort of defeats the object of a spinning class as your pace is led by the monitor.

Traditionally the static exercise bike had only a couple of settings to change the level of difficulty. Nowadays bikes can be found that imitate the motion of climbing hills by allowing sideways movement and others run on a tradmill to give the real sensation of riding on the roads. You should only choose one when you know what you are going to do with it.

As a basic form of exercise you can even buy a set of pedals that you use while sitting down watching the tv in the recumbent position. These cheaper options are not really useful as they tend to get hidden under a bed very quickly. They can be useful for someone with an injury that requires non movement for a time.

A basic static exercise bike will suffice as regards the need for exercise for many people but may not have the “sexy exercise” factor that attracts owners to use it and therefore again it gets used as a clothes hanger rather than a bike.

The more modern static bikes with readouts of kilometres covered, calorie counters, terrain changes, differentiated resistance and the ability to move the bike and stand helping you to move up and down imaginary hills is much more interesting and so it might well be worth splashing out to make sure that usage is maintained. You may well use it more if you invest a little bit more in it.

Whatever type you get you have a couple of guarantees. Healthwise you can only benefit by using the bike. Your resting heart rate will drop, you will have greater stamina and your resistance will increase, all good things to have. You will also get an improved quality of life. In the worst case scenario of non usage you will at least have a place to hang clothes.
